Final Conference

At the Virtus conference, we delved into the realm of upscaling inclusive vocational training for individuals with autism, leveraging cutting-edge technology to pave the way for a more inclusive workforce. The results of the project were presented and discussed by the speakers and the audience. And together, we explored how vocational training tailored to the needs of individuals with autism can be revolutionized through the power of Virtual Reality.
The Conference started with an Introduction on the ‘Low arousal approach’, a useful methodology for VET workers, emphasizing the importance of simplicity and proactive planning in reducing stress and enhancing productivity in the workplace.
Then, Ploes (our partner from Greece) shared findings from Virtus research, highlighting the potential of training using virtual reality in improving work performance and addressing the gap in job interview skills.
The day continued with the presentation of the VIRTUS training kit, designed to equip trainers and staff with tools for creating inclusive workplaces and supporting autistic individuals in navigating the workplace environment.
After the training Kit presentation, João Canossa from ARCIL shared his experience from the piloting events. He gave some insights on how partners piloted the Virtus training working on role-play scenarios for employment, emphasizing the importance of creating cohesion and social closeness among individuals with autism.
The day finished with the certification scheme of the training and the rich discussion about the Future of Vocational Training for autistic individuals moderated by Gareth Morewood.
Participants left the conference with plenty of ideas to improve VET for autistic individuals with new technologies!
